Spojeno sklem! Connected by Glass!
The Town of Železný Brod and Municipal museum in Železný Brod succeeded in applying for a grant for the project „Connected by Glass!“ From the EEA and Norway Grants. The purpose of the project is to strengthen the management of cultural heritage through the revitalization of the museum building in order to ensure optimal protection of collection objects and create an innovative way of their presentation, and through other activities that will strengthen bilateral cooperation and development. The total amount of funds provided from the EEA and Norway Grants is 28,166,983 CZK.
The project started on 1. 4. 2021 and will end on 30. 4. 2024.
New permanent exhibition and digitization of collections
The most visible part of the project is the building of a new, modern and interactive permanent exhibition and the renovation of facilities for visitors. For this reason, the museum will be closed in the autumn of 2021 and will open in mid-2023. The modernization of our museum will also consist of digitization. We digitize a large part of collection items and place them on the portal. We digitize the premises of the new exhibition and place it on our website in the form of a virtual tour. Part of the project is the professional elaboration of a collection of historical glass.
International symposium Summer glass workshop
The summer glass workshop, which takes place in cooperation with our museum, Střední Uměleckoprůmyslová škola sklářská Železný Brod and the Detesk glass company, is a prestigious affair among art glassmakers. Four artists were attended symposium each year. Thanks to the project, two Norwegian glass artists will always take part in the symposium in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The symposium will thus become even more prestigious. In addition, we will establish close relations with the Norwegian glassmaking community. International cooperation will make visible the phenomenon of artistic glassmaking in Železný Brod.

Wandering in the footsteps of the “Skřítek Střípek”
Our museum supports the preservation and development of the glassmaking tradition. For this reason, we also included in the project the game „Wandering in the footsteps of the “Skřítek Střípek“, which has so far been realized by tourist office IKS Železný Brod. Cooperation with IKS Železný Brod, local glass entrepreneurs and other entities involved in the project will certainly contribute to the socio-economic development of the town, as well as to building a valuable and lasting dialogue between entities focused on glass issues.

Romani people and glass
The aim of our museum is to professionally process and reflect on the phenomenon of Železný Brod glassmaking, which includes a wide range of partial research. Therefore, the museum decided to capture the participation of the local romani community in the process of local glassmaking. We will carry out research on the topic of „Romani people and glass“, the result of which will be part of the museum’s new exhibition. Our museum, in cooperation with the “Museum romské kultury”, will organize an exhibition of paintings by the artist Rudolf Dzurko, who used colored glass crumbs in his work. In order to involve the local Romani community in the legacy of glassmaking, the museum will organize three workshops on glassmaking for Romani children as part of the project.
